Accessibility Statement

Sheng Chang, M.D., Ph.D.'s office wants this website to be usable by everyone who visits it, including patients using a screen reader, a keyboard instead of a mouse, or a browser text-size setting larger than the default. This page states what this site aims for, what has actually been done, and what is known to still be incomplete.

Standard aimed at

This site aims to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA. That is a goal the site is built toward, not a certification: this site has not had a full accessibility audit by anyone outside the people who built it, so this is not a claim of conformance.

What has been done

  • Pages use semantic HTML headings (a single h1 per page, nested subheadings in order) so a screen reader user can navigate by heading structure.
  • Meaningful images carry descriptive alt text; decorative images and icons are marked so a screen reader skips them.
  • A "Skip to content" link is the first stop for keyboard users, so you can bypass the header and navigation on every page without tabbing through them first.
  • Interactive elements — links, buttons, the language switcher, the theme toggle, the text-size control — show a visible focus outline when reached by keyboard, not only on mouse hover.
  • The site's color palette, in both light and dark themes, is checked for WCAG contrast between text and its background as part of the site's own automated test suite.
  • A text-size control in the header lets you enlarge the page's text beyond your browser's own default, independent of your device's system settings.
  • The site works in both a light and a dark color theme, and follows your device's preference automatically unless you choose otherwise.

Known limitations

This site has not been tested with every screen reader and browser combination, and it has not had a professional accessibility audit. If something on this site is difficult to use with assistive technology, that is useful information the office wants to hear — see "Reporting a problem" below.
